I’m OFFICIALLY fresh meat for the DC Rollergirls!!!!
I am so, so excited! Time to step it up and work my ass off even more! Woooohoooo! :D
are TONIGHT!!!!
I’m so nervous. This is what i’ve been working towards for the last couple months. There were a lot of great, talented girls that attended the “pre tryout” on Tuesday. We’ll find out tomorrow if we made it into meat camp….they’re taking “20ish” girls and I suspect there will be something like 50 girls trying out.
Eep.
So before I pass out for a short nap before I work all night, I thought I would post an update about my derby weekend (:
Saturday:
I went to an open practice hosted by the Charm City Rollergirls with a few of my fellow DC pre-meaties. It was great! Reckless Ndangerment led the practice, which focused on falls. It was great to get a detailed explanation on several falls and participate in drills that were very helpful. At one point we did suicides with falls at each cone. Several of the CCRG vets were on hand. Thoroughbled and Federal Kill were both in my line for suicides. It was an awesome experience to be skating with players that I look up to. At one point we had the opportunity to partner up with a vet to ask questions- I chose to talk with Mya Bloody Valentine. She was very chill and we had a quick little exchange about me trying out for DCRG and I showed her my stops. Also got reassurance that my dinosaur-like opposite direction crossovers aren’t the end of the world.
After the practice, the pre-meaties and I went to lunch with Reckless and Paige Fault. Had a chance to exchange a lot of funny stories-derby and otherwise. Overall, a really fantastic time with CCRG. I’ll definitely be back for next month’s! (:
Following the practice, we made the trek to Black Eyed Susan’s. I got my new skates! Reidell 265’s with an XK4 45 degree double action plate…

I threw my Poisons and a toe protector on and they were complete! Marzi was a sweetheart as usual. Definitely need to check out her location if you’re in the area!!
Sunday (today):
Woke up early and picked up Suzanne. We got to Anacostia about an hour before the start of the meet and greet. A couple others showed up early too. Including yet another girl who loves to give me crap. She’s cute though, so it’s okay :P Anyway, this gave me an opportunity to try out the new skates. Took me a little bit of time to get used to the plates, but after a bit I was fine. I LOVE THESE SKATES. It’s like a night and day difference from my other ones.
The info session drew quite a good crowd. They discussed the meat process/league history/committees, etc. Following that, they broke us into groups with the vets and went over the various skills that would be assessed for the tryout. It was very helpful and the ladies of DCRG were awesome.
Dig told us that they would be taking the top “20ish” skaters from the tryout into meat camp. There were definitely at least 30-40 decent skaters there. I’m definitely getting nervous for Friday.
I had originally planned to cap off this weekend by going to the Mason Dixon/Female Trouble bout, but I was just so exhausted (and tired of driving) that I just spent the rest of today relaxing.
Next big day is Tuesday night when DCRG hosts an open skate at the Armory to go over tryout skills!
Wow this was long, sorry!
Happy skating :D
So, in order to get my hours this week at work I need to work tonight.
Awesome.
That means that i’ll be sleeping on the floor of my office between the time I clock out (6am) until it’s time to leave for Baltimore for CCRG’s open practice. It takes me almost an hour to drive home from work, so I would just be losing valuable sleep time. Plus, Chantilly is a lot closer to BMore than Purcellville.
No decent sleep ever. Just another day in the life. At least this is for derby purposes.
So i’m doing the very ambitious task of attempting to organize my itunes library. I could really use some new music.
Suggestions?
